This office is responsible for:

  • Preparing the yearly Personal Property and Real Estate Books. The Real Estate Book updates are made by reading the Deeds and Wills (recorded document listings are provided by the County Clerk’s Office) and making the appropriate changes.
  • Valuations will be placed on vehicles using 60% of the NADA loan value.
  • Valuation on real estate will be completed by using 60% of the current market value (established by cost, market and/or income methods).
  • A listing of mineral owners is contained in the Real Estate Books. All values on natural resources and managed timberland are derived from calculations set in place by the WV State Tax Department – Property Division.
  • The county Tax Maps are made and updated in this office yearly according to the recorded documents (newly created parcels).
