Important Dates to Remember:
- January – Senior Citizens Tax Credit Packets will be mailed by the WV State Tax Department only if you qualify for Homestead or disability Homestead.
- February – The Board of Review & Equalization (County Commissioners) shall commence no later than February 1 and adjourn no sooner than February 15. Valuation issues will be addressed by the Board. The Clerk of the County will post hearing dates and times in the local newspaper. Note: If an assessment or tax class is in error, this must be discussed with the assessor.
- July 1 – Individual Personal Property Assessments filed (vehicles, motorcycles, boats, campers, etc.) and dog taxes collected (Rural-$3.00 ea. and Cities-$6.00 ea. & Head tax on Sheep and Goats-$1.00 ea.) as soon as possible but no later than October 1.
Commercial Business Property Returns should be filed as soon as possible but no later than September 1.
Farm Use Applications should be filed yearly as soon as possible but no later than September 1.
Homestead and Disability Homestead (Proof of Disability must be provided) must be filed no later than December 1.
Industrial Appraisals – completed by the WV State Tax Department – Property Tax Division.
- September – Farm Decals on the farm vehicles must be renewed yearly – $2.00 fee for the decal renewal (this replaces the license and inspection sticker-insurance must be carried).
- October – The Board of Appeals carryover from February if a hearing extension was requested and granted during that month (February).
